ArticlesOur Innovations: Facilitating Efficient Laboratory Operations Microlit April 10, 2019 Enquire now 4 minutes read At Microlit, innovating is a way of life. We are continually engaged in testing and improving the performance of our products under practical laboratory conditions, designing high precision liquid handling instruments infused with sophisticated technologies. Our research-oriented, data driven and customer centric team of scientists, engineers, IT specialists and technicians are passionate to deliver precision in everything they do. They help us blend the best performance parameters with the best user experience. It is due to their dedication and the growing trust of our users that we were felicitated by the CII Industrial Innovation Awards and adjudged a place in the top 25 Most Innovative Companies of 2016.A few of our products, like MICROLIT ULTIMUS, MICROLIT BEATUS and MICROLIT E-BURETTE, are also recognised by India Design Mark.Let’s read in more detail about them and the innovations that our R&D team has developed over the years.Innovations:(1) EasyKnobTMWhat is a volume adjustment knob?It is the most frequently and repeatedly used component in Bottle Top Dispensers. As the name indicates, it’s a small knob used to set and adjust volumes. In order to ensure the longevity of the knob itself and facilitate easy and efficient volume setting, this component conventionally operates on a screw type mechanism/technology.What are the drawbacks of using a screw type mechanism?Over RotationUsers commonly tend to over rotate a screw-based volume adjustment knob. In order to ensure that it is tightly secured, the knob is given an extra turn and because of this, it either gets too tight to be loosened again easily or breaks.Screw KnurlingThe knurling on the screw of a volume adjustment knob has been designed to offer better grip. In actual practice, however, when the knob has been tightly secured because of over rotation, these grooves or knurls cause inconvenience to the user whenever he/she tries to loosen it.MICROLIT’S Smart Innovation – EasyKnobTMEasyKnobTM, a smart and sophisticated volume adjustment knob, works on a 180° rotating lever type technology. A simple and smooth 180° turn of the lever, in the anti-clockwise direction, loosens the knob and the user can then easily slide the pointer and set his/her desired volume. Another simple 180° turn in the clockwise direction secures and tightens the knob and the pointer, ensuring efficient and precise volume setting. The lever has a unique structural design which does not allow it to over rotate. There is a distinct stop step beyond which the EasyKnobTM does not tighten, ensuring consistent operation during every volume setting. (2) FlexiNozzleTMWhat is a delivery nozzle? When it comes to working in real laboratory environments, users often find themselves dealing with issues of space. Consequently, working efficiently and pouring reagents into different types of vessels/reservoirs in such conditions becomes a tedious job, owing to the fixed delivery nozzles in conventionally available Bottle Top Dispensers.Drawbacks of Using a Fixed Delivery NozzleFixed/rigid delivery nozzles in conventional Bottle Top Dispensers make it extremely difficult to fill long vessels as the dispenser either has to be tilted or placed on a raised platform to carry out any operations.TiltingTilting the dispenser can cause spillage or accident. This reintroduces the danger which the dispenser is designed to eliminate in the first place.Using a raised platformPlacing the dispenser on a raised platform requires more effort and reflects poor ergonomics. This option might not be even available in a lot of labs.MICROLIT’S Smart Innovation – FlexiNozzleTMFlexiNozzleTM is an innovative yet simple solution – it allows users to change the angle of the delivery nozzle while carrying out routine laboratory operations. Thus, they can comfortably work with a variety of differently shaped and sized vessels like test tubes, conical flasks and measuring cylinders, that otherwise are difficult to access with a perpendicularly placed nozzle.
