What is Pulsation in a Peristaltic Pump?

Pulsation refers to the natural fluctuation in flow that occurs because fluid is delivered in “packets” with each roller passing over the tubing. Instead of a perfectly smooth stream, peristaltic pumps produce a rhythmic flow pattern. The level of pulsation depends on factors such as the number of rollers, tubing size, and pump speed. While pulsation is acceptable in many applications, certain sensitive processes may require flow smoothing.
